My New Year’s Resolution is to learn to bake. While soups, stews and sausage-and-mash come easily, the peculiar science that is baking has so far eluded me. In recent memory there were the “button biscuits” which turned into lumpen sugary playdough, and the peanut butter cookies which I decided to pour into a cake tin, and which resulted in a brownish, inedible frisbee of undercooked dough and grit.
I received my first baking book for Christmas*, and I intend to work my way through it, by each week by creating something from its pages.
